EurASc Annual Symposium & Ceremony 2025

Dates: 17–18 December 2025
Location: CERN, Geneva, Switzerland

About EurASc & the Event

The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) is pleased to host its 2025 Annual Symposium & Ceremony at the prestigious CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research — in Geneva. This gathering aims to bring together scholars, researchers, and innovators to reflect on how fundamental science shapes society and its future under the theme:

“Societal Impact of Fundamental Sciences”

Attendees will engage in high-level scientific presentations, interdisciplinary dialogues, recognition of excellence, and visits to CERN’s cutting-edge facilities.

Venue & Logistics

  • The event takes place within CERN’s main campus.

  • On 17 December, the venue is the CERN Council Chamber; on 18 December, sessions will be held in the CERN Main Auditorium

  • CERN is well connected to Geneva’s public transport system. Tram line #18 offers a direct ~20‑minute ride from Geneva’s main railway station to CERN.

  • Participants staying in Geneva will benefit from free public transport passes during their stay.

  • Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 16 December to allow time for pre-event visits (e.g. the CERN Science Gateway).

Programme Highlights & Activities

Although the detailed schedule is still being finalized, the core components are known:

Day 1 — 17 December

  • Key scientific sessions, featuring oral and poster presentations selected via submitted abstracts

  • Guided scientific visits to major CERN installations, such as the Synchrocyclotron (CERN’s first accelerator) and the ATLAS Visitor Centre (with possible underground access, per safety permissions)

  • Symposium dinner in Geneva (optional, with additional fee)

Day 2 — 18 December

  • The official award ceremony, featuring the presentation of the Leonardo da Vinci Award and Blaise Pascal Medals to distinguished laureates

Significance & Expectations

Hosting the Symposium at CERN underscores the commitment of EurASc to bridging fundamental science and societal impact. CERN stands as a global symbol of scientific excellence and collaboration, from its breakthroughs in particle physics to its broader contributions—such as the invention of the World Wide Web and advances in medical imaging and quantum technologies.

Through intensive discourse, collaborative exchanges, and recognition of outstanding contributions, the EurASc 2025 event aspires to strengthen the nexus between basic research and its benefits for society.
