New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Senior Associate General Counsel, Education, Research, Intellectual Property & Innovation, reporting to the Chief Counsel. When necessary, the incumbent will oversee tasks and projects both solo and in small project teams made up of important stakeholders. In addition to being the main point of contact for research, undergraduate and graduate education, faculty affairs, student affairs, and the creative and entrepreneurial spaces at NYUAD (i.e., Executive Education, StartAD, Art Gallery, Art Institute, External Affairs, and the student newspaper), the candidate will be responsible for handling and/or managing all of the IP legal needs of the university. The candidate will advise on inventions for patentability and will provide legal advice to the Office of Technology, Opportunities, and Ventures (TOV) and NYUAD Office of Research Translation and Innovation (RTI) at New York University (NYU), as well as research compliance related to research projects, engagements with faculty, and drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO, UAE’s Ministry of Economy, and other foreign counterparts. The applicant will provide clients with advice and guidance on a range of intellectual property (IP) matters, including copyrights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and IP commercialization. will advise the IP Committee of the University.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy, Training, and Compliance: Develops, explains, and encourages adherence to NYUAD policies and procedures while collaborating with its departments to match departmental actions with the organization's goals of academic research, economic development, and research. primarily for NYUAD faculty, post-doctoral fellows, undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate students; technology transfer specialists; and research contract negotiators, offers training and information on relevant legal changes. Giving proper consideration to any legal, political, or financial risks to the NYUAD, this guidance helps department administrators and staff understand the legal and business reasons and consequences of the administrative actions they take. It also helps them implement and enforce adherence to governance, policy, risk, and compliance requirements.
Required Education:
a bachelor's degree in STEM from a university with accreditation. Adequate to practise law in the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, or any comparable state.
Required Experience:
10+ years of experience practicing in a broad range of legal areas within a complex organizational structure. 5+ years of experience in intellectual property law and commercialization of intellectual property. Strong oral and writing communication abilities in English, particularly the capacity to explain complicated legal and business concepts in a way that non-lawyers can comprehend. Capacity to oversee several tasks and finish them quickly and efficiently with little to no guidance. shown capacity for independent judgement and for determining whether a situation warrants a prompt referral to upper management. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and listening abilities as well as the capacity to network and interact with people both inside and outside of NYUAD. the capacity to recognise, evaluate, and settle complicated legal and business matters. enthusiasm for and aptitude for picking up new legal topics fast. Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills. Highly ethical cultural intelligence and sensitivity.

LLM in intellectual Property or Patent Agent. Preferred Experience: Interests in cutting-edge scientific research, the metaverse, artifical intelligence, and/or cryptocurrency.
